Thanksgiving Technical Fault

While WABC continuity announcements were handled by the diverse team of ABC staff announcers, Gil Hodges tended to be the “main” voice of Eyewitness News from around 1979 to 1985. Hodges had great range, and could go from smooth, warm announcements – to an exciting, staccato delivery to open newscasts. These two clips are a great example. Hodges covers nicely for a technical fault, with a friendly, informal, announcement explaining that they will join Eyewitness News after a few messages, even naming the team (you can tell he is stretching for time).
