WVLT-TV 8 is the CBS affiliate for Knoxville TN. The 62nd Neilson Designated Market Area. Covering the upper part of east Tennessee to the Cumberland plateau. WVLT is one of 3 local stations in Knoxville that broadcasts news for the surrounding area. Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee. Our nickname and mascot is the Volunteers. The call letters – W for being east of the Mississippi and VLT the abbreviation for Volunteer.

The station has been on the air now for 50 years. First sigining on as WTVK TV 26 back in 1954. Then becoming WKXT TV Channel 8 in 1987 and WVLT TV 8 in 1997. Owned by 2 different companies in this time.
