BBC Breakfast – First Edition
New, it's not
Quality: HQ
Tuesday 10th April 2012 and broadcasting history is made, as the BBC’s flagship morning news magazine programme starts broadcasting outside of London from the BBC’s new Northern England home at Media City in Salford. Their new studio – SQ2 is based in Quay House and is shared with North West Tonight, Breakfast also shares North West Tonight’s technical staff. The opening titles remain the same, however there are some lovely bright and colorful new studio backdrops featuring a generic skyline and some weird office furniture. It’s a shame they’ve not embraced their move North and featured Salford as their backdrop. Very different to the days when the BBC was proud to show off cities they broadcast from it’s regional broadcasting centres like Pebble Mill.Sian Williams and sports presenter Chris Hollins did not move with the programme. In March 2014, Susanna Reid left to join on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, while Bill Turnbull final appearance was on 26 February 2016.
