Play for Today – Rumpole of the Bailey

Another classic play, directed by John Gorrie: the very first appearance of John Mortimer's witty barrister Horace Rumpole, as played by Leo McKern. When the BBC dragged its heels over commissioning a series, producer Irene Shubik whisked the whole package off to Thames, and the rest is history.
