Name that Tune

Name That Tune started on Thames in 1983 and emerged as the most successful light entertainment show next to This Is Your Life. It started on the NBC radio network in 1952, moving to television in 1953. In the late 1970s, Tom O’Connor hosted Name That Tune as a segment in the London Night Out variety series. The segment’s origins lie in an earlier ABC series, Spot the Tune (1956). This version’s title sequence is possibly the longest and most hysterical opening of any game show, with an announcer exploding with excitement when the curtains draw back to reveal the star prize, a Mini Metro!
