A Sense of Freedom

This hard hitting film made for Scottish Television by John Mackenzie, director of The Long Good Friday (1980), tells the true story of Jimmy Boyle, the notorious Glasgow gangster who was jailed in 1967 for murder, and was able to turn his attention to art and write an autobiography while in Barlinnie Prison. It was later released in cinemas by Handmade Films, who recut the film and redubbed it with softer Scottish accents, it also had a brilliant score by Frankie Miller and Rory Gallagher.
