In 2009 Al Jazeera gained a new on screen identity produced by JL Design for the channel's 13th anniversary. The concept is organic, simple, mature and uses a colour palette of three colours: gold, sea blue and pearl white. The challenge was creating a 'softer' visual style that was suitable for hard news. Gold is the theme for the main news opening titles and breaking news, whilst blue is the dominant colour for other categories – sport, economy, weather etc.
