Originally shown to mark Sooty's 50th birthday 1998, A Big Hand for Sooty took a look back at Sooty's life on screen beginning with Harry Corbett (not to be confused with the Steptoe & Son actor Harry H. Corbett) through to his son, Matthew – who at the time of recording the documentary was retiring after 25 years performing with Sooty and he hand-picked Richard Cadell to be his successor.
