5 USA

5 USA is a digital television channel, which is owned by Viacom International Media Networks Europe along with its sister channel of Channel 5, 5 Spike, 5 Star and 5 Select. The channel concentrates on showing imported movies and programmes from the United States.

The channel launched on 16 October 2006 as Five US and was the second digital channel in the UK to be launched by RTL Group (the owner at the time) as part of their multi-channel strategy. Comedian Russell Kane was the ‘face of the channel’, presenting short clips between some programmes which acted as space fillers to comply with advertising regulations in the UK until 16 February 2009.

On 16 February 2009, the channel was rebranded to “Five USA”, The presentation was updated for a second time as “5 USA” on 7 March 2011. The presentation was updated for a third time on 11 February 2016, as part of a major rebrand by Viacom.
