Tele5 became Deutsches Sportfernsehen (German Sport Television) at the beginning of 1993. — As well as offering a variety of sport programming, DSF fills its 24-hour schedule with quiz phone-in shows, teleshopping and erotica – indeed some weekday schedules only include sport in the evenings. — Its permission to broadcast is based on it being a sports channel, but it defends itself against criticism in this area by pointing out that the other programming helps it buy the expensive rights to more high-profile sporting events.
