SVT1

SVT1 is the oldest channel in Sweden the primary channel of Sveriges Television, the Swedish public service broadcaster. It was officially launched in 1956 as Radiotjanst TV, becoming Sveriges Radio TV in 1957. When TV2 launched in 1969, it was renamed TV1. The channel was renamed Kanal 1 in 1987 when it was decided that all programmes from the capital would be broadcast on Kanal 1. In 1996 Kanal 1 was renamed SVT1. In 2001, the channels were rebranded with the intention to reposition SVT as the flagship network.
