Granada operated many other businesses as well as producing television for the North of England. From TV rentals to leisure and hospitality business like motorway service stations, bingo halls, hotels and cinemas. The Granada name and logo was proudly carried across all these different businesses.
This is where Granada’s founder Sidney Bernstien started his business, opening his first theatre in Dover in 1930. The images below are from matchbooks given or sold to lucky smokers in Granada Theatres, advertising TV shows of the day
In the 1970s and 80s everyone seemed to rent a TV set, Granada TV rentals was a big name on the UK high street, giving Rumbelows a run for their money! If your TV set had a meter on the side for 50p pieces, chances are it was a Granada.
