ITV’s new corporate look for all channels and news was unveiled on 16th January 2006. This is the look for ITV1 designed by Red Bee. Named “emotions” idents, so-called because ITV1 was said to provoke a reaction in all of us. Some of the action was filmed in South Africa.
Simon Shaps, the ITV director of television, said the new look for ITV1 was designed to be “very warm and inviting, not scary. We need and won’t sacrifice the volume audience that ITV has relied on for 50 years. But we also want to attract different audiences. This is about building on the existing audience, rather than displacing it. Some people might think that three years is quite a short period of time since the last significant rebranding. But in that three-year period an awful lot has happened in television. There are an awful lot of new channels, programmes and celebrities.”
However these lasted only until November; It’s rumoured they were axed after derision from both viewers and ITV bosses.
