Portsmouth TV

Launched on the 6th June 2001, My TV Portsmouth was the first of a planned three ultra local television services on the south coast. The others were to be in Southampton (eventually launched in 2002) and Bournemouth (never made it to the air). When it launched Portsmouth Television was one of just a handful of local television services, the first – TV12 had launched on the Isle of Wight in 1998, finally finishing in 2002. When launched the new local service for Portsmouth modled itself on regional ITV with news at the heart of the schedule. Most of the staff had been recruited from the local area with little or no TV experience. A couple had previously worked in television before including presenters Robin Kay who had been a transmission controller at TVS and Mark Stewart a former TSW announcer. Other presenters included Fred Dineage’s daughter Sarah.
