Carlton

Carlton Communications was established by Michael Green in 1983, followed by the formation of Carlton Television two years later. In 1985, Carlton attempted to take over Thames, though the bid was unsuccessful. Carlton’s fortunes improved in 1991 when they were awarded the London weekday franchise, which they launched in 1993. Despite facing criticism from the ITC for a rocky start, Carlton London improved and went on to acquire the Central and Westcountry franchises. Finally, in February 2004, Carlton merged with Granada to form ITV plc.
