Doctor Who

After ratings for the programme’s return from hiatus failed to meet expectations, ‘Doctor Who’ was allowed to continue on the condition that its lead actor was recast. Cue a new title sequence featuring Sylvester McCoy, the first to be realised with CGI. For the 1987 season the independent company CAL Video generated the graphics, which were designed by Oliver Elmes. Meanwhile Keff McCulloch was commissioned to re-arrange the theme tune and compose incidental music for a number of stories. His music is characterised by extensive use of a ‘sequencer’ which produced energetic, repetitive notes.
