Doctor Who

A UK-USA co-production resulted in this 1996 TV movie directed by Geoffrey Sax, in which Paul McGann replaced Sylvester McCoy. The theme music was re-arranged by John Debney to place Ron Grainer’s famous ‘middle eight’ bars at the start. Its John WIlliams-esque orchestral rendition improved on the latter electronic arrangements of the previous decade but lacked the spookiness of the spliced-tape recordings of the sixties and seventies.

The graphic design is more successful, with the attractive Post Antiqua typeface and a revival of Bernard Lodge’s 1970 logo in 3D CGI.
