Doctor Who closing titles

Murray Gold’s initial re-arrangement of the theme tune retained elements of Delia Derbyshire’s original recordings but laid new sounds on top. He dropped Ron Grainer’s middle eight from his first recording, as it reminded him too much of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ He reprieved it for the 2005 Christmas Special and for the 2006 series, in an all-new arrangement recorded by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The 2006 series music became almost wholly orchestral, with few of those original sounds making it through into the mix.
