Eurosport was part owned by Sky, and launced as a 12hour service showing European and International events from a consortium of EBU members including the BBC. During it's first month on air the channel broadcast many live events, including The World Alpine Skiing Championships live from Colorado, World Matchplay Snooker from Essex, The World Bobsleigh Championships from Italy, and European Figure Skating from Birmingham.
