By 1978, Eyewitness News introduced a wild new "stairstep" studio and a unique ribbon logo that the station would utilize until 1982. Longtime reporter John Johnson helms this weekend report alongside Anna Bond. This was the first weekend evening newscast – Johnson and Bond note this at the end. Interestingly in this newscast, Johnson leads with a brief mention of a plane hijacking before launching into the main story – the death of former governor Nelson Rockefeller. In this age of 24-hour news, it is interesting to note the comparative lack of attention this story recieved.
