Fiona McDiarmid
Sky News presenter Fiona McDiarmid has passed away in 2002, succumbing to her battle against breast cancer. McDiarmid, who was 40 years old and had devoted over five years to her career at Sky News, passed away in her London home with her parents and husband Jim by her side.
A spokesperson from Sky revealed that she had been undergoing treatment for the illness for more than a year. Nick Pollard, the head of Sky News, expressed the profound sadness for Fiona’s family.
Fiona McDiarmid began her professional journey in the West Country, working as a reporter for GWR radio station. Her career then led her to London, where she worked as a producer and reporter for breakfast station TV-am, gaining recognition for her impactful series on the Aids issue among Romanian orphans.
Her dedication to medical and health-related subjects continued when she became the health correspondent for TV-am’s successor, GMTV, in addition to presenting weekend news bulletins. In 1994, she assumed the role of the main news presenter for Channel One television, a cable television company based in London.
In 1997, Fiona joined Sky News, where she became widely known for hosting the interactive program “Your Call” and also presenting Sky World News. She was a highly regarded and beloved figure by both her friends and colleagues.
