Kenneth Kendall
Kenneth Kendall (7 August 1924 – 14 December 2012) was a BBC newsreader for many years. He joined the BBC in 1948 as a radio newsreader but in 1954 he transferred to television. Although not the first newsreader on BBC television, he was the first to appear in front of a camera reading the news in 1955. He retired from the BBC on 23rd December 1981 but went on to host the Channel 4 game show Treasure Hunt from 1982 to 1989. He retired to Cowes on the Isle of Wight where he and his partner ran a marine art gallery. He died on 14th December 2012 following a stroke a few weeks earlier.
