BBC East Midlands News
Originally set up in around 1985 the East Midlands had a 7 minute opt within the main Midlands Today. This came from Wilson House in Nottingham, which housed a tiny studio above a charity shop.
On Monday 7th January 1991, East Midlands Today broke away from Midlands Today and a fully separate region was created. It was initially based at York House, next to the Victoria Centre shopping centre in Nottingham. This had been the home to regional news opt outs since around late September 1989. Regular presenters for the sub opt at this time included Andrew David, Janet Mayo, Lynette Lithgow and Ian Woods. Around this time the that the service was expanded to include a bulletin after the 9 O’clock news and a trail before the 6 o’clock news.
In January 1999 the BBC relocated to London Road, where BBC Radio Nottingham were based.
