On 16th October 2000, as part of the BBC’s steer towards making local news more local, a new service was introduced for the north of the BBC South region. Half of the 6:30 edition came from Oxford, the rest from Southampton, other than on Friday’s when the whole of 6:30pm programme came from Oxford. The late news was in full from Oxford. All other bulletins for this area came from Southampton. A new studio for television was opened within the BBC Radio Oxford premises on 3rd October 2005.
