Channel 4 Daily launched 3 April 1989, with Carol Barnes. It was conceived as a television newspaper, which included a number of segments like Business, entertainment, sport, world news live from Tokyo & Washington, Countdown Masters – an abbreviated version of Countdown and a cartoon slot called Comic Book. By 1991 Dermot Murnaghan become the presenter. Due to continuing low ratings it finished on 25 September 1992, being replaced by The Big Breakfast.
