Red Dwarf

A radiation leak wipes out the entire crew of the eponymous mining ship except curry-loving vending machine repairman Dave Lister, who was held in suspended animation at the time for smuggling his cat onboard. Ship's computer Holly releases Dave from stasis three million years later, once radiation levels are safe, and chooses to resurrect his jobsworthy, neurotic bunkmate Arnold Rimmer in hologram form as the ex-crew member most likely to keep him sane in deep space. Sci-fi elements quickly secured the series a cult following.
