The Royle Family

The Royles are Jim (Ricky Tomlinson), Barbara (Sue Johnston), Denise (Caroline Aherne), and Antony (Ralf Little). A typical episode has them reacting to each other's idiosyncrasies and sharing gossip whilst idling in front of the TV joined by Dave (Craig Cash), Denise's other half, and sometimes Nana (Liz Smith). Mancunians Aherne and Cash are the main writers of this unconventional sitcom noted for its prolonged, naturalistic silences and lack of exposition shots. Oasis b-side Half the World Away plays over the credits.
