The Glasgow-born entertainer Stanley Baxter made a breakthrough on the BBC in 1959 and stayed with them for various series until 1972 when he moved to LWT, an association that was to last a decade. He had many talents, but in particular he was well known for mimicry. Combined with the lavish costume, make-up and design offered by LWT, he created some famous comedy and music routines, sending up famous personalities. Baxter was also the first entertainer to spoof the current monarch. This four-part series was his ITV debut, running from 4th to 29th October 1972.
