Stigma

For the 7th Ghost Story for Christmas, Lawrence Gordon Clark offered the BBC either an adaptation of M.R. James’ Count Magnus or Casting the Runes. The BBC turned them both down as they would have been too expensive to produce, with little time left, Clark made this quick and very bleak horror short from an original story by Clive Exton, filmed in Avebury, Wiltshire. The rushed production and lukewarm reception to this story left a sour taste in Clark’s mouth, and he jumped ship to Yorkshire Television the following year.
