Industrial action plagued ITV during the 1970s and early 80s, often causing stations to start later in the day or offer a reduced service. 'Salute to Thames' was still occasionally played with a Thames crash slide, but often a totally different caption and music were used, as on this occasion. Philip Elsmore looks very relieved to be back on air, promoting the British television premiere of 'Star Trek – The Motion Picture.'
