The Two of Us

Ashley Phillips (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and Elaine Walker (Janet Dibley) share a basement flat love nest as an unmarried couple. Ashley, ever the hopeless romantic, keeps popping the question but Elaine, a fierce defender of her freedom, sees no need for a walk down the aisle. In their corner is Ashley’s Grandad Perce (Patrick Troughton), cheering them on, while Ashley’s overbearing mother (Jennifer Piercey) pursues them like a marriage-hungry hound, relentlessly urging the couple to make it official. The series ran for a total of 32 episodes over 4 series from 1986 to 1990.
