Jean Marsh and Eileen Atkins created this series, which unfolds the lives of a wealthy London family and their domestic workers at 165 Eaton Square. Marsh not only co-created but also portrayed the character of Rose, the housemaid. Gordon Jackson and Angela Baddeley shone in their roles as butler Hudson and housekeeper Mrs. Bridges, respectively. David Langton and Rachel Gurney appeared as the Bellamys, the distinguished employers. Another notable cast member of series one was Pauline Collins, joining the household ‘on trial’ as a maid in the first episode.
A total of 68 episodes were broadcast over 5 series between 1971 and 1975.
