For the sixth and final series, The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club was cut from 45 minutes to 30 minutes, with only one act on per episode, which gave Bernard Manning and Colin Crompton little to do. At this point, ratings had declined as regions like Anglia, London Weekend and Southern moved it to midnight instead of prime time Saturday night, feeling it didn't fit their audience demographic. 10 episodes were filmed, but only 8 were shown, plus it was getting more difficult to book certain acts, so Granada and producer John Hamp brought the curtain down on the show forever.
