From Autumn 1976 Until October 1986, BBC2 broadcast two news bulletins a day. The first was a early evening news summary with subtitles. Initially there was no fixed time for this bulletin but by 1984 it had settled down to a slot at around 5.30 and was the first programme of the evening. The Second bulletin was late at night, however from January 1980 Newsnight had replaced it. In 1981 the bulletins were no longer branded as “News on 2”. In October 1986 BBC Daytime news summaries created a new uniform look for the bulletins, with nearly all BBC 2 news now being relegated to weekday daytime only, expect for news view on a Saturday evening.
