John Benson

John Benson (1928–1995) was one of ITV’s legendary announcers. He was chief announcer at ABC Television in the North in the 1950s and 60s. He went on to announce for BBC radio and work as a relief announcer for Rediffusion in London. He joined Thames Television when it took over the London weekday franchise in 1968. He also worked as a relief announcer for Westward, Anglia, Southern and TVS. His voiceover credits include Anglia Television’s “Sale of the Century” and Yorkshire Television’s “3-2-1”.
