The BBC East region, which covers the eastern part of England, was officially launched on 5 June 1959. Here’s how the BBC’s channel branding has looked from BBC East in Norwich over the years.
BBC East Anglia Symbol ~ Before the introduction of the regional BBC1 globe in 1974, each BBC region had a graphic symbol to represent their area of the country. The image shown on the left is courtesy of Francois Frappe. Francois took this black and white photo in July 1971 of a transmission from the Tacolneston trasmitter, showing the symbol in action. The right image is courtesy of James Barrington. A photograph of the actual cardboard graphic, that would have been placed infront of a studio camera.BBC Colour Norwich Caption Card ~ This photograph was kindly contributed by Stephen Bumfrey
