Tele5

The 1988-1992 incarnation of Tele5 was briefly part of a network of European channels including the French La Cinq, Spanish Tele 5 (now Telecinco) and Canale 5 in Italy, home of Silvio Berlusconi, who owned 45%of the German channel.

The channel was apparently somewhat forcibly closed down in 1992 and it relaunched in 1993 as Deutsches Sportfernsehen (DSF). Many of Tele5's popular programmes reappeared on other channels in the months following the closure, and some persisted for many years. In 2002 a separate group (Tele München Gruppe) obtained the rights to use the Tele5 name and launched a channel which has concentrated since 2005 on showing predominantly films.
