Carlton Select

1st June 1995 SelecTV launches. Carlton takes over the channel in March 1997 and relaunched it as Carlton Select. The channel broadacst weekdays 5pm to midnight and weekends midday to midnight. 1st Septemebr 1996 Carlton Food Network launches, broadcasting in SelecTV’s downtime. It broadcasts weekdays 12noon to 5pm with SelecTV following on. 3rd January 1998 Carlton Food Network broadcasts from 9am until 5pm seven days a week, still sharing with Carlton Select on cable which started at 5pm and went on until 2am. 15th November 1998 Carlton Kids, Carlton World and Carlton Cinema all launched exclusively on OnDigital when that platform launched on 15 November 1998. Carlton Kids and Carlton World both closed down at the start of 2000 to make space for two Discovery channels – Disc Kids and Disc Wings, launched especially for OnDig as Discovery wasn’t able to launch its main channel due to contractual arrangements with Sky. Eventually Discovery was able to launch its main channel on OnDig and took Kids and Wings off OnDig at that time. 1st March 2000 Carlton Select closed down on OnDigital. Carlton Cinema appeared on cable during the evening period (7pm to 7am) in the space previously occupied by Carlton Select. Taste CFN extended its hours on OnDigital using the free’d space but I can’t recall what hours Taste broadcast after Carlton Select closed. Carlton Select made it as a cable only channel for a year after OnDig/ ITV Dig closed down, finally closing on 31 March 2003.
