The History Channel was launched on 1st Jan 1995. — Co-owned by Disney, NBC and Hearst (known in the US as "A&E Networks"), it broadcasts round the world in various forms. — Not to be confused with Canadian channel "History TV", which does show some History Channel programming.

On 3rd November 2004 a new look was unveiled created by Lambie-Nairn, to help to modernise its image. The new modern branding is to reflect the channel's shift in programming to focus on contemporary history, current events and technology. The idents featured simple imagery, such as an image of a handwritten manuscript and the words "Know the story".

In December 2010, History updated its idents, some of the new idents are in a menu form, with text displaying What's On Now and Next.
