On 2nd November 1998 A new look was unveiled created by Hobbins Sides. Six Companies pitched for the redesign, with Hobbins sides eventually snagging the contract partly because "it provide Sci fi with a design system rather than a fait accompli. Hobbins Sides Creative Director Andrew Sides said " We sold it on the basis of three-layered concept. With Spaceships you are painting a very literal picture of a specific part of Science fiction. Its more about the ideas and its quite a cerebral activity.

2004 – 2006

In April 2004 Sci Fi was given an "fresher" look, with the channel becoming similar to the US version which has used the presentation since December 2002. The new look was designed in house by Lambie Nairn and directed by Erick Ifergan with effects by Londons Glassworks. 17 Idents were in total to help shift perception, and move the channel away from its image of being cold and techie, focused on aliens, UFOs, and monsters. Flyboy / Vapor Lovers / Weird pet idents won a Silver Award at D&AD: Global Association for Creative Advertising & Design Awards. Universal president Dan Marks said "We're following the science fiction genre as it moves more mainstream, adding content such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and movies such as The Matrix have helped push the genre into the popular arena. As a result of the rebrand, there have been an unspecified number of redundancies and hirings at Sci-Fi's UK offices, understood to have been mainly in the group's press and marketing operations. The new-look Sci-Fi Channel will retain its name and have new brand idents, and Universal is focused on bringing more pro- gramming into the channel that cannot be seen on any other digital TV stations, such as John Doe, Veritas and the Tremors series, already showing on the channel"
