Sky Channel 1984 – 1989 Branding

Sky Channel was Europe’s pioneering satellite channel and the UK’s first satellite channel. The then “Satellite” channel got into financial difficulty and Rupert Murdoch invested in the channel. He extended the broadcast hours and the number of countries the station broadcast to including the United Kingdom. On 16 January 1984 the channel was renamed Sky Channel and for the first time it was broadcast legally in the UK via Swindon Cable Television to a handful of viewers.
