Grampian Television

In 1960, North of Scotland Television Limited was awarded the ITV franchise to broadcast to the North Scotland and Highlands and Islands regions. As a condition, they had to include members from the losing bids on their board. On 11th January 1961, the board members decided to change the name to Grampian Television due to its lengthy name and began broadcasting on 30th September of the same year. During its time as a franchise, Grampian contributed to the ITV network with programmes such as ‘Living and Growing’ for schools, ‘James the Cat’ for children and hosting the first three National Television Awards. In June 1997, Grampian was acquired by Scottish Television and was eventually rebranded as STV North in 2006.
