Captain Pugwash

Leaving aside the urban myths, thanks to The Guardian (or should that be Gaurdain?), creator John Ryan originally drew this as a comic strip for the newly launched Eagle in 1950. Dropped after 3 months and replaced by another Ryan creation, Harris Tweed – Extra Special Agent, the good Captain and crew came to BBC tv, first in black & White and then colour. Animation was by using cardboard cutouts moved by hidden rods. (See also Mary, Mungo & Midge & Sir Prancelot). CGI was used in the ITV revival in the 2000s.
