The Comedians gave cabaret comics a half hour stage in which to reach a wider audience with gags and jokes. Amongst the best known names were Bernard Manning, Charlie Williams, Frank Carson, Mike Reid, Duggie Brown, Colin Crompton, Ken Goodwin and George Roper. The series originally ran from 1971 to 1985 but returned briefly in 1992.
