The Weather Channel 1996 – 1998

Based on the popular and successful US channel, The Weather Channel launched on Sky 1st October 1996. It shared its transponder with The Racing Channel and Sky Box Office transmitted from 6am until 11am. It was really designed for cable as it had specific local weather, in some cable areas it was on 24 hours a day. The channel ceased transmission in April 1998 due to poor viewing figures. The Weather Channel was produced by IWP – The commercial arm of The Met Office.
