Ronnie Barker excelled as stammering shopkeeper Arkwright in Roy Clarke's Yorkshire-set comedy, slyly offloading his stock to uninitiated customers, lusting over buxom nurse Gladys Emmanuel (Lynda Baron), and foiling every attempt by 35+ year old Granville (David Jason) to progress with the opposite sex for fear of losing him as an errand boy. Along with that of Porridge, the Open All Hours pilot figured in Barker's Seven of One vehicle.
