RTÉ TWO 2004 – 2009

RTÉ TWO is the second channel provided by the Republic of Ireland’s leading public service broadcaster. Like its sister channel, RTÉ ONE, its income is derived from licence fee payments and advertising/sponsorship revenue.

It first went on-air on 2nd November 1978, with a gala evening broadcast from Cork. Down the years, the name style for RTÉ’s second channel has varied. It began life as RTE2, and was relaunched as Network 2 in 1988.

By 1997, a new station logo was launched with the legend “N2”, although announcements still referred to “Network 2”. 2003 saw the adoption of “RTÉ Network Two” as the on-air name. In October 2004, RTÉ’s second channel dropped the “Network” from its brand name and used the name style “RTÉ TWO”. The new presentation package introduce the channel’s colour scheme of red and orange, which it has maintained to this day.
