ABC

The ABC logo was designed by Paul Rand in 1962, still in use today. Rand also designed the IBM and UPS (United Parcel Services) logos. ABC is owned by Disney. ABC has always had a distinctive style to its promos, from the black and yellow scheme of the late 90s to the more rigid standardized promos of the 1980s, you could always tell apart an ABC promo from one of its other networks. Part of this was due to ABC's King of Announcers, Ernie Anderson, who could sell ANY show.

ABC's no-frills yellow and black identity ran for 4 years. A very distinctive identity featuring black and white animations on a yellow background for idents and promos. Black and white photography featuring candid behind-the-scenes shots of ABC's programme personalities was also used. The graphics were supported by a new 4 note theme tune. CBBC had a similar identity in 1997

2003 –

ABC Sports

For much of its history, ABC closed its sports telecasts by saying, "ABC Sports, recognized around the world as the leader in sports television". It wasn't just a boast – it was truth. Helmed by the legendary Roone Arledge, ABC used its lack of major sports contracts as a strength: its "Wide World of Sports" introduced viewers to a variety of sports from around the globe, introducing new, cutting-edge techniques in the process. ABC's Wide World experience translated to years of successful coverage of the Olympics, which ABC telecast until 1988. And of course, ABC Sports helped make American football the new national pastime with its influential Monday Night Football telecasts. However, as the years went on, ABC Sports' influence waned, thanks in no small part to ESPN. ABC had acquired the all-sports network in the late 1980s, and its popularity grew to eclipse that of its broadcast partner. In 2006, sports telecasts began to be branded as "ESPN on ABC", and the signature "Monday Night Football" moved to the cable network.
