One of the four original companies granted a franchise under the 1954 Television Act, A-R TV, went live on September 22nd, 1955, offering weekday programming to London and its surrounding counties. On April 6th, 1964, the company rebranded as Rediffusion London. However, on July 26th, 1968, it was forced to merge with ABC to create Thames TV, resulting in the end of its broadcast operations.
