Tyne Tees began broadcasting on January 15, 1959 from a converted warehouse in Newcastle upon Tyne’s City Road. In July 2005, Tyne Tees relocated to smaller studios in Gateshead.
Throughout its history, Tyne Tees has produced regional content and contributed programming to the ITV network and Channel 4. Its notable productions include the music show ‘The Tube’, Catherine Cookson adaptations, and children’s shows such as ‘Supergran’ and ‘The Paper Lads’.
Tyne Tees has undergone ownership changes, including mergers with Yorkshire Television and Trident Television management during the 1970s. In 1992, Tyne Tees merged with Yorkshire Television to form Yorkshire-Tyne Tees Television. As a result of ITV network mergers led by Granada and Carlton, Tyne Tees became part of ITV plc in 2004.
